I'm a huge fan of Daniel Suarez's sci fi (see all my prior posts), so it was a real treat to be able to host him for an Authors at Google event when his new book INFLUX launched. We got to talk about lots of fun topics including quantum computation, antigravity, self-driving cars, and the process of researching and writing science fiction. I'm excited to keep up with Daniel and see what he works on next.

I earned my Bachelor's of Computer Information Systems with Magna Cum honors from DeVry in 1994. I've written beautiful code. I've been employed full-time in IT ever since. I enjoy reading science fiction/fantasy more than any other pass time. I yearn to discover exciting plots, wonderful characters, great writing with powerful dialogue, and believable science. Daniel Suarez's 'Daemon' & sequel 'Freedom' totally blew my mind. I wasn't prepared. His books contain astonishing computer science along with an a compelling vision of a runaway distributed computer program. Is it good or evil - the program? Read the books and decide for yourself. Have you ever considered buying Google Glass? That's easily what I found most compelling in these books. Daniel helped me see how powerful Internet-capable, GPS-capable, biometric-capable, facial-recognition-capable glasses will become. Government-issued pairs will grant their wearers access to context-sensitive classified information in real-time. Corporate-issued pairs will grant their wearers access to context-sensitive confidential information in real-time. People without these tools will be at a colossal competitive disadvantage. Read Daemon & Freedom and tell me what you find!
