Mash-Ups Continued: Pop and Oldies 09/06/2010
It's been a while since I uploaded a new set, so I decided to spend a couple hours making one for everyone out there. I've collected a lot of awesome mash-ups over the past few months, and over 150 of them are still unplayed (in my sets), so there'll be more where this came from. AC changed ownership (and was closed down for the past couple of months), so I'm no longer playing there regularly. We'll see what the future holds with respect to next gigs.... Enjoy this set of familiar modern and not so modern mash-ups spanning many genres: pop, hip hop, rock, disco, and oldies. It's amazing how such different tunes can go so well together. It's been a while since my last posted set. I performed the set below a couple weeks ago and have been really busy since then. I've been collected a bunch of mash-ups I keep wanting to play out, and this set is the first half or so of some great 120bpm mash-ups. Enjoy! Shangri-La 2010 June 06 Set: Mash-Ups! 06/07/2010
I've been collecting a lot of really fun mash-ups from a bunch of different bootleggers over the past few weeks. I'll be incorporating these more into my sets as I love music that crosses genres and combines unexpected parts to work together in harmony. This is a set of all mash-ups at 100 beats per minute, so lots of hip hop combined with some oldies too. Enjoy! After a two week break, I was back to Air Conditioned last night for our weekly DJing extravaganza. This week, I decided to play a number of new tunes I'd found over the past couple weeks in addition to a medley of amazing mash-ups I've been collecting recently. More to come next week, but for now, enjoy, and let me know what you think. Ice Scream 05/15/2010
Yesterday, I randomly started singing three rap songs and accidentally or coincidentally interweaving their lyrics (no, I don't often burst into singing rap on a daily basis). They were probably relevant to something I was doing or thinking about, though I don't have a Chevy with butterfly doors. I probably subconsciously chose these songs because of their similar themes, energy, and even lyrics (and two of them share a common vocalist). I decided that this was probably a good enough basis for a mash-up, and here's the result. Enjoy, and let me know what you think! I had a great Mother's Day seeing my family and finished up the night spinning a decently long set at Air Conditioned. I finally got through my backlog of "must-play" tunes and even threw in some of my classic favorites from years ago. This mix has a big variety of genres in it, and it's also the first time I did live mash-ups in dance music. Enjoy, and let me know what you think. Back to Shangri-La: Dance and Pop 05/03/2010
Unfortunately, I was out for a week with a really bad cold, so I missed one Sunday of DJing. I was dead tired after this past weekend's events, but I still managed to make it out and play a brand new set. This one's composed of some of the latest tunes I hadn't had a chance to play over the last few weeks in addition to some old classics that I love and some requisite pop. I had fun spinning with everyone this weekend, and I hope you enjoy this set. Let me know how you like it. Shangri-La -- 80s Style 04/19/2010
I'm preparing for the set I'm about to perform this past Sunday, and my wife says, "Play 80s!" Then she lists like 100 songs I must play. Uhh.... It actually turned out pretty well, and I had a lot of fun with this set. Take out your neon leotards and enjoy! This is the set I performed this past Sunday at Air Conditioned Lounge in Santa Monica. It was my first time doing a decently long segment of pure mash-ups. I followed it up with some more of the latest dance and house tunes I've enjoyed over the past couple of weeks. Listen, and let me know what you think. Rock Medley 04/04/2010
